Solar Energy FAQ
Solar energy takes advantages of the sun ray to generate heat or electricity. It is a renewable resource and unique for its ability to generate energy in a quiet, clean, and consistent manner.
Photovoltaic cells convert sunlight to direct current (DC) electricity.
The charge controller charges the battery bank and also regulates the amount of charge to avoid over/under charging of the batteries.
The inverter converts DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity needed to run your appliances assembled in your electrical panel.
The electrical panel sends power to your lights and other appliances.
Solar is the cleanest, greenest and most viable form of energy available. It produces no waste or pollution, does not contribute to global warming. It reduces our reliance on electricity, which is becoming very expensive and largely erratic
During daylight hours, energy from the sun is absorbed by the panels; powers your appliances and stores some in the batteries. When the sun goes down, the inverter automatically sources its energy from the battery bank, providing you with a continuous supply of electricity.
Once your system is installed, electricity production is completely free.
The system requires very minimal maintenance. There are no moving parts. The panels may require cleaning every few months, depending on location, to remove any dust on them. However to ensure optimal performance, regular scheduled inspection is advised. Proper care and maintenance will ensure your solar system’s longevity and optimal performance.
Solar power is readily affordable. Recent improvement in the technology have made it significantly cheaper than other sources of electricity generation. The return on investment for a 2kW system on average is less than 1 years. Thus an average family recovers its cost within this period. The more energy you consume, the shorter the payback period.
The solar panels will last over 25 years. They come with a full 25-year manufacturer’s warranty. With guaranteed performance efficiency of 90% after 10 years and 80% after 25 years.
High quality deep cycle batteries with a minimum useful life of 2 years.
The average life of an inverter is 5-10 years, and comes with a 1yrs manufacturer’s warranty.
This depends on your total daily electricity consumption. The more you consume, the bigger the system you will need to power your home or business.
To know the specific range, you have to calculate the each wattage of your Appliances i.e the power consumption will be added together on every appliances intending to power with an inverter.
A 2Kw system will produce between 8kWh and 10kWh of electricity each day. The amount of energy produced by the PV panels is based on the amount of Peak Sunlight hours’ received, per location. In Nigeria as a whole, this ranges between 4 and 6 in the South, to as high as 9 in the North. The higher the peak sunlight hours, the fewer PV panels are required to generate the same amount of energy.
The panels are installed on the roof so they are exposed to maximum amount of sunlight. They can also be ground mount if there is insufficient roof space. The latter is most applicable to businesses with large premises that require huge electricity generation.
Mostly a day or two depending on the time it started and the kind of a system to be installed. However for residential solar installations, depending on the size of your house and the system.
Minimum time is 10 hours and it start charging exactly by 6 am in the morning
